Purchase College, State University of New York

Post by MKainuma »

The Conservatory of Music at Purchase College, State University of New York, is currently accepting applications for Undergraduate, Graduate, Performers Certificate, and Artist Diploma tuba and euphonium students. It's not too late to apply for Fall, 2012. Information on the Conservatory may be found here:

and here:

In addition to private lessons, there is a strong emphasis on chamber music. Conservatory ensembles include the Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Winds, Brass Ensemble, Jazz Orchestra, and Contemporary Ensemble.

Purchase, NY is located north of New York City, 30 miles from Midtown Manhattan. Everything NYC has to offer is within a short commute.

If I was a student wanting to get to the "The City" I would definitely consider studying with Morris. Great guy and Helluva player, definitely in the Hoss category.

If I may make a plug for Mr. Kainuma, I had the pleasure of playing next to him a couple weeks in NJSO for Symphonie Fantastique. I must say that Morris is an incredible player and musician. I've also had the pleasure of hearing him play next to Gene Pokorny in Chicago Sym. playing Rite of Spring (I sat right behind his bell!). As a person who believes that students need a great model on which to imitate and grow, Morris is a world-class example of this. In addition, he's one heck of a nice person!

Chris and Derek, thank you for your supremely kind and generous words. The feeling is mutual, on all levels. My best wishes to you both.

Respectfully,
Morris
