Re: Mirafone Tuba Model Question
Sounds like a 186 to me.
A semi-related question, what other CC tuba models was Miraphone manufacturing in 1965? Were they making the 184 or 185 around then?

Re: Mirafone Tuba Model Question
That is the issue. The bell is 16" and from what I have read the bell of the older 186s is usually 16.5". I thought that maybe in the 1960s the bell was a little bit smaller and that someone has/had or owned/seen a similar tuba. I also thought that maybe the bell is from another model. Hence, my question.scottw wrote:You have it in your signature! Re: Mirafone Tuba Model Question
The bells on the early 186 model horns were a bit smaller... maybe closer to 16" but certainly not any smaller. I know that the replacement Miraphone bells are enough larger that they won't fit in the original case... maybe closer to 17".b.williams wrote:That is the issue. Does your bell have the Miraphone logo with a serial number under the 'triangle'?

Re: Mirafone Tuba Model Question
I have a 1960s Mirafone 5U 186 serial #1507. The bell measures 16 7/16.
It is a great horn and during those years this model had the larger bore lead pipe.
The horn is all origional as I bought it from the first owner. Maybe you have the 4 rotor version.

Re: Mirafone Tuba Model Question (Answered)
FYI: After consulting with Miraphone directly, the horn is a 4U CC-185. Thank you all for your input.
