- clockspring linkage - "short" 5th valve slide (will not make an adjusted whole tone) - receiver (bass trombone size ? standard ?) - finish is remarkable (original ? relacquered ?) Ask about or order Sellmansberger mouthpieces at 901-465-4739 or click the email icon.

Re: B&S SymphonieIs that the standard "lever" for the 5th valve (behind the tuba)?
Re: B&S Symphonie
There's no way this is a BBb tuba. THAT's what I was alluding to. Besides... Es is German Eb. I figured Bs would be Bb. Dan Schultz

Re: B&S SymphonieFrom pictures I think that is F tuba, not Bb. The development of the pipes seems me too short for Bb tuba.
Re: B&S SymphonieThe behind-the-tuba left-hand thumb 5th valve lever was the original design.
The right-hand thumb trigger for the first slide (in my experience) isn't really needed. My right hand thumb (as mine is set up with 5 and 6 operated by the left-hand index and middle fingers) operates a 5th valve slide trigger which is useful for (already close, but) critical tuning of "low A" and throwing the 5th slide out far enough to play a 5-6-1-2-3-4 low F (unlike "open": not sharp, and well-focused). This is surely a early/mid-70's vintage instrument (creeping up on being forty years old). Again, I'm wondering if it has been relacquered. Re: B&S SymphonieThe seller mentions that but does not want to send outside of Germany (which also means it can't be shipped to Switzerland as well) so the perspective buyer will have to go and pick up the tuba in person.
Re: B&S SymphonieThat is a rather wide bell kranz. Bell Kranzes are cool.
Re: B&S SymphonieIt's a B&S F model Symphonie.
By the style of braces, it's older than the 1970s and more likely early 1960s. Regarding the 5th valve linkage, it was(and still is) possible to order from B&S with either left or right hand/thumb or finger operated including triggers for the first slide etc. Here's a picture of a "brand new" 1966 5valve version next to a mid 1970s 6valve.
