Re: TMEA 2012 - The Aftermath
I was there today with a few colleagues (couldn't miss us....walking around in our Army uniforms
). I stopped by Miraphone and chit chatted with Richard for a few, where he was playing his personal Miraphone. He entertained my question about the Siegfried tuba, telling me that it's going to be mostly handmade and be larger than a Culbertson CC. Prior to me asking this question, I had not been following the buzz about the Siegfried, so I was pretty amazed to hear what's in the works for this horn.

I remember jam sessions at that house, even when it wasn't TubaRay's house. The TubaMeisters were born in that living room.schlepporello wrote:Well, a few of us tubeNetters were supposed to get together for a "Meet n' Eat" which was to be followed by a jam session at Tubaray's house.
Next observation: Joe's daughter is magnificently fortunate to have taken after Debbie, and not Joe.
Finally, Richard Murrow didn't come to the Army conference this year. I suppose that's because he has to arm-wrestle Roger Lewis for it. With both of them manning Miraphone booths, though, we may no longer get impromptu cold-chop demonstrations of Bydlo by Roger, which always seems to attract the attention of Richard, even in the Elephant Room.

You'd look more height appropriate if you'd rid your chin of that, thing.

RE Brian's comment, Marcus Theinart is a hell of a nice guy. Every time I've been at a Miraphone booth he's always been friendly, cordial, and helpful. If I could afford to, I'd buy every instrument I've talked to him about.

Along the same lines, Steve Ferguson, Robert Carpenter, Newell Sheridan, the retired Navy guy that works the Besson booth (cannot remember his name!),... are all fantastic people. To this day, Marty Erickson is still one of the nicest people I have ever met in my life. I stopped by the Willson/Getzen booth at Midwest over a year ago and he talked to me for a half hour. Also, he did his magical "no valves" scale trick.
