I worked at a job today!

My cat did a job last night. I almost stepped in it this morning!

I found an F tuba I really like. I already have an extraordinary fine F tuba, but this one is a little bit different. I was wondering if anyone would like to contribute to a fund which would furnish the funds for me to purchase this tuba. It could possibly assist me in further research and development of mouthpieces, which would assist the greater tuba community.

I'll pitch in a buck!

I am having a fantastic time playing the string bass part (on tuba) in the pit orchestra for a local high school production of "Kiss Me Kate".

"Too Darn Hot", the production number that opens the 2nd act, is just over-the-top fun to play. So much walking bass, in so many different styles. I'm lovin' it.

I wonder what other musicals might be similaraly just plain fun to the max.

The low brass quartet bunch (usually eight of us) that meets at my house on Thursday evenings is morphing into a 'big band' since many of the guys double on other instruments. We'll be doing 'big band' material on alternate Thursdays. I'll be covering the bass parts of tuba... as was VERY common back in the 'big band days'. It's lots of fun playing the bass parts and even the 3rd or 4th trombone parts on tuba.

The style of tuba playing that emulates a string-bass comes easy for me.

Clearly, anyone could C that w/o an update, but I certainly appreciate the fact that you took time out of your busy day to share this with us. The scary part is that you could Bb, at least some of the time. G# has always been a favorite accidental, for me.

Found out on Friday that I now get to consider myself a former cancer patient. That feels awfully damn good. Six year journey.

I audited a masterclass with him, so I learned a lot, got to ask lots of questions, and hear some really great students perform for him. Cool stuff! One of the most interesting things was his strong thoughts on the traditions of using BBb and F tubas. The Berlin Philharmonic played a concert that night, which was also awesome (Bruckner 9 at Carnegie Hall). Happy birthday to me!
