Honestly I feel like an *** to admit it... but I kinda thought she died years ago.

I have a terrible memory for celebrity deaths. All too often I think to myself "I haven't seen _____ in a while," and come to find out they've been gone for years and years. (For example, Ed Bradley, when I was watching 60 Minutes yesterday.) And just the opposite, there are people I thought were gone (like Bob Newhart), who are very much alive and well. I dunno, weird examples, but you get the idea.

I join in the chorus that mourns Whitney Houston's death, but I have mourned her loss for a good length of time. She had thrown her life away in a very real way, a long time ago.

I hesitate to make a trivial comment in light of such a tragedy, but; this was the first time I ever heard the National Anthem performed in 4/4 time. It sounded great, but felt different. Is it done often?

No intention to slam any particular performer, but here's a different approach to our National Anthem, one which I prefer over pop-culture performances.

When a post like this (no offense elephant) stays on the board, it makes me wonder why the post about the passing of Ray Young, a legend in the euphonium world, got moved to some off-topic board. It certainly was a disrespectful choice on someone's part considering this thread.
