SOLD: Yamaha YCB-822S - $6000
I'm selling an early Yamaha YCB-822S for a friend of mine. She is the 3rd owner who bought it from a mutual friend. The 2nd owner purchased this particular instrument in Boston where the original bell had been damaged in shipment and replaced by Osmun with a raw brass Hirsbrunner bell. This particular 822 CC is #11 and with the smaller bell, it plays unlike any 822 I've ever encountered.

This particular tuba has an excellent scale, even response and is extremely easy to play. I've used it on several quintet and orchestra pops jobs in the past and fellow musicians always commented on how easy it was to play with this tuba.
There is some cosmetic damage (few dents/dings in the bottom bow), but nothing major that would effect the playability. The bell is flawless since it was installed some 15 years ago...even after flying to Europe and back several times in the factory case!!!
The price is $6000 USD and will include the factory case as well as a black cordura Crokhite gig bag. Buyer is responsible for shipping. The tuba will not be shipped for trial, but is available for testing in Chicago. If you live in Southern California, it might also be possible for testing, but contact me for details.
Please direct all questions to:

Thanks,

This is a very unique playing 822. I tried it about 7-8 years ago and only passed on it because I already had an 822 F. It has a great sound. Bump for a fantastic playing horn!

I can also vouch for the quality of this horn. The 2nd owner was a classmate of mine in Switzerland and this horn sounds and plays great!!

Re: FS: Yamaha YCB-822S - $6000
I've always thought that most YAMAHA TUBAS SOUND THE SAME with the exception of 5 instruments: Roger Bobo's personal F tuba, the YamaYork, Sergio Carolino's 4/4 YamaYork, Jim Self's double F/CC tuba and this particular 822CC. Yamahas are good tubas but this is the best example of an 822CC that I've ever played.
This particular instrument is the closest that you can get to a handmade Yamaha CC 822. It's a very free-blowing horn with good intonation and plays better than any Yamaha 822 tuba I've played.
I know this instrument well as the owner (who was also a student of Roger Bobo and the winner of the 2000 ITEC solo competition) was kind enough to to let me use it when Roger Bobo's tuba class flew to Regina from Switzerland.
I would certainly have no hesitations about buying this horn.

Tim,
4/4 yamayork? Is that what he is playing in the most recent videos that are up on YouTube?

Bill,
Yes a 4/4 Yamayork. Here's a picture with Steve Rosse. It's an excellent horn. I would imagine the price to be around the $30,000 range. However, being limited on funds, I would buy this particular 822CC advertised in the thread.
