Blind Boone

Post by basspiper »

I know, it's not tuba, but I need a little help: do you know of a source for easy piano sheet music (level 3 or 4 equivalent) for any of Blind Boone's ragtime works? My son has a famous Missourians-themed school project coming up and wants to do one of his pieces.

A collection book would be fine, too, so long as it has something by Blind Boone and wouldn't take weeks to order. We would certainly consider a level 4 piano/tuba duet, if such a thing exists! :)

Thanks,
Dave

But actually, he ought to consider Scott Joplin instead, or in addition to, as he was born in Sedalia, especially as more people are familiar with his works, such as The Entertainer, Maple Leaf Rag, etc., and which are in the above-referenced collection as well:

(Yes, I actually grew up in Marshfield, the town that had the tornado in 1880 that inspired Blind Boone's most famous piece, but which was so complicated it was never transcribed; only other works survive:

Thanks, iiipopes, good idea, I think we'll reconsider Scott Joplin. Much more likely to be found in an easier transcription. We thought of him but steered away because Wikipedia said he was born in Texas (nothing against Texas, it's just about famous Missourians). Maybe deep ties to MO trumps birthplace? Or Wiki has it wrong?

Well, at the very least the kids are old enough for us to hit the Joplin and Boone festivals in Sedalia and Columbia this year!
