Hi-
Just a curious question on prices for a good used B&S PT-6P ( yes, 6P--piston, not rotor)--- what seems to the going price for a used one in a). Lacquer? and in b). Silver? ( and no, I am not interested in one for myself, just curious what the current 'used market' prices are--and please, not a 'wishful thinking' price, but a 'reality' ballpark price.....).
Many thanks!
Regards-
Mark

Based on a quick search of the for sale section plus what I remember seeing, I'd say in the ballpark of $6500 to $8500.

What CJK said. I was going to ballpark around $7,000 for lacquer, or $8,000 for silver.
Also, seems like "nearly new" ones come up pretty often, and that's closer to $9,000...?

When buying a *used* tuba, I really don't care if it's lacquer or silver. I would actually prefer lacquer because it's easier to keep looking good and easier to repair and stay looking good. I don't see silver as being more valuable than lacquer in the used market, but that's just me.

Re: Question regarding prices on used PT-6P tubas...
I have a silver PT-6P. I purchased it used in fairly good condition for $7800, which included a WJ flight case. The price would have been higher, but the second valve guide needed replacing, and there was some other piece of work that needed done to it, I can't quite recall what it was. But those two things were deducted from the asking price, and we arrived at 7800.

I was at Custom Music last Fall and the silver PT6p's were more like $12,500.
