M&M "upgraded" JBFB-600 F Tuba

The big issue is that M&M sells two versions of a Jinbao F, one at $1900 and one at $3800. The more expensive one says M&M on the bell, and unless I'm oversimplifying, improvements are basically "trust me, it's better."

If you're truly sold on the Jinbao F, there are a couple of used copies in the for sale section. If you want new, Jim Laabs stocks these regularly, and Mack Brass will special-order one. Surely one of these sellers will ship overseas.

Disclaimer: I own one of these and can confirm it has some intonation issues, all surmountable with some familiarity with the horn.

If my budget were in the $4000 range, I might not be in the market for a Jinbao F.

How the HELL did the price get clear up there?!?!?!? Did you order the 2 I knew he had on order for out here? There must have been some exhorbitant "freight" charges or something tacked on. Done right it doesn't cost THAT much to fly a tuba out here.

These Fs are head-scratchers. There's a visibly bizarre taper after the valve section - it's freaking enormous and over-quick. It looks like intonation would be well served by either a conical valve bore or a seriously gentler taper on the top bow and tuning slide. The second solution might be worth purchasing one to "fix". It's such a small instrument; I cannot comprehend this tuning slide/top bow taper. I'd bet big money that the source of the devilish intonation.

the taper is VERY uneven.
The tuningslide is ~200% above the average of the instruments tapered sections and ~300% above the really more in tune instruments I've tried (and meassured)
It's in fact close to 400% more than a Besson 981

I believe it is just as much being uneven as agressive

You don't have to Pay 3600$ for the upgradet m&m (if it's upgradet anyway)
They are in eBay often. You can can suggest a Price. Got Mine for 1600$.
Decide by yourself if it's worth this price

They're not worth paying any more than a grand for, and then only for parts or s's&g's. Funny how some people, not necessarily the advocates, said that those who had issues with the horn had personal playing problems and then changed their tune later on. Where's the yank smilie when you need it.

I still really like the euph and Hirsbrunner copy, and kinda like the contrabone and 1291 copy (need to spend more time on them).

Right. There was a 600 and a 410, both in silver, plus gigbags, mp's and freight. All the time he blamed the factory for being slow.
Others are right. If I add the $4200 to the price of of yet another try I could have bought the very nice B&S 3099 I stupidly sold a while ago. As Ned Kelly said "such is life".
