BUMP is an acronym for Boost Up My Post.

"Bump"?

Post by TubaRay »

I always thought "BUMP" was just an attempt to be annoying to everyone else on TubeNet. It certainly annoys me, anyway.

Counter-BUMP?

Post by Kevin Hendrick »

the elephant wrote:It would have been useless on the old style BBS. When you post here, the thread becomes the most current and moves back to the top of the list. As more posts build, the thread slides down and can even drop to page 2, where most posts die and sink to the bottom of the ocean floor as post-silt.

If someone thinks that a post should be put back into prominence again but has nothing to actually add to the thread, they merely have to hit "Submit" again.

However, you MUST post something, so many just "bump" the post back to the top.
If, on the other hand, someone thinks that a post deserves an even faster dive into the muck than "gravity" (if you will) alone would provide, they have no recourse ... so far. Might be useful to add a new tag to BBCode -- something along the lines of "<GRIND>", perhaps? (acronym for "Go Relocate Insipid Nonsense Downward") Seems like a good balance to "BUMP"
