Another Mouthpiece Question....

Hello everyone! Once again I come to y'all for some questions/advice! If I'm playing a BBb with a Giddings and Webster Bayamo which is quite a large mouthpiece in my book the rim 1.32, and the throat is .332 in diameter, very deep funnel shape cup. It is outstanding for the lower register and I can easily hit the Bb six ledger lines below the staff. I need to know how some of these professionals play on BBb's and can constantly stay in the upper registers? (Upper being G last space in the staff and up)
Also, I keep doing slow slurs up octaves starting at the Bb two ledger lines below the staff and slur up an octave chromatically until I hit the middle C above the staff. I do this every day for about 20 mins, and I am still not able to just nail a G at the top of the staff. Could that just be a bad harmonic or note for the horn?

I am no expert, but that G was a big problem for me too. It was one of reasons why I changed to F tuba for such pieces. I think its not just your problem...

Try another mouthpiece? Could help, hard to say. It's possible to make some use of the tuba without going above F in the staff, but that G is certainly going to be called for more often than the B six ledger lines below.

Also would want to check your `fingering', and then there's the possibility that your physical approach to high notes is just incorrect for your particular face.

Thanks for the tips! When I play above the F in the staff I relax as much as possible and push as much air as I can.

I have no idea what horn you're using, but that G is sometimes a funky note on BBb tubas. Trying playing it with the third valve, and see if that helps with stability.
