I just acquired a neat old silver King E flat Sousaphone. Unfortunately the tubing from the mouthpipe receiver down to the first tuning slide is gone. I'm going to have this section fabricated. Could anybody tell me the dimensions of the missing tubing and/or send me a pic?
Thanks,
Andy

Hmmm, I'm not that familiar with King's, but a shop close to me also has a very old King Eb 4v sous, and it barely excepts an American shank mpc. I tried using my Blokepiece Solo on it and this was this first time this mpc didn't work for me on a tuba (it even works on my cimbasso!).
I guess what it comes down to is this; look for a repairman that really knows his s**t before you end up spending a lot of time and money on the wrong plumbing. There are folks out there that have worked on these horns before.
my 2 cents

If this is the King Eb with the full wrap-around-your-body design with the leadpipe going into the tuning slide first, all the leadpipe and gooseneck components are exactly the same as the current BBb. Nice horns - I still kick myself for selling mine and want it back! Anyone want to trade for a Conn Monster Eb sousa? 4 valves not required
Seriously, though - don't fabricate - these play like a dream!

John Thomas is great. He just returned mine a couple weeks ago.goodgigs wrote:AndtSinAK,
Call Thomas Musical Instruments in Santa Cruz Ca. I think they might have one of these to sell parts off.
This might not cost much less then a new one though.![]()

If you have the part number, King will most likely be able to send the part. Tom Treece had one of the large bore rotary valve King's (from the 1930's) and got parts with no trouble at all. You may have to go through a shop, just to get the part number though.
