Lingon tells the exact story. Very similar to my experiences, only our postal system charges more for the handling. In one insane situation I paid more in handling fee than in taxes.

Lingon maybe also gives the key to understanding the message behind mlb’s not very clear communication: that Jinbao instruments for European customers maybe are shipped out of a Jinbao storage within the EU. If so the duties and taxes have been handled at the pre-wholesale level and are included in the invoice price. But for me that is not importing from the US, which was the original discussion of this thread due to no availability for testing in Germany. And I am still not sure what mlb tries to tell.

It is the buyer who is responsible for taxes and duty in there delivery area, BUT we do send many instruments to Europe the proper way do save these charges as much as possible
The only people that are complaining are dealers and tuba repair shops ,since they dont have the old rotted out instrument to make money with

Thank you
Hmm, why not have a dealer set up in the EU to which you could have the instruments shipped directly from China? Then there would only be customs and stuff when it goes into the EU, not first to the US and then when going in to the EU and even more happy customers that could play your instruments. Maybe I am missing something here so please enlight me.

Please undertand I am not complaining just wondering and I really like some of those old rotted out instruments, not to making business with but to play...

As a matter of fact, for my living I play a China made instrument and have had it as my main axe for many years now. I like it and so does my coleagues.

My experience ordering various things from the USA over the years is that charge of import duty and VAT is very much one of chance. I have had to pay 30 GBP duty on one mouthpiece and then been charged nothing for another. I have also found the carrier may add an 'administration charge' to the duty which in some cases has been more than the duty and VAT combined!

So you may strike lucky and get a bargain buying from the states, or may get really done for extra charges. Always safest for European buyers to buy from within Europe if at all possible

Hi Ulli,

if you want to buy a JinBao Tuba in Germany, contact Klaus Ekle (ekle.de).
He sells all JinBao instruments with his brand "MTP".

I have bought there the Hirsbrunner clone for a good price.

Jens, thank you for your hint.
I know Mr. Ekle- his MTP CC Tuba looks not like the JinBao and is >very< costly (if it is a Tuba from China).

tubamlb- If I take the Ebay price of the M&M CC5/4:
2650,00 USD plus 3,25% import duty is:
2736,13 USD plus Shipping costs 360 USD is:
3096,13 USD plus 19% VAT is:
3684,39 USD
In fact: That is to pay in Germany for a CC5/4.

BTW: Is the 2650 USD for booth: lac or silver- plated?

There is a very practical aspect to under-declaration: Insurance only covers declared value.

And to Ulli: Import tax also is to be paid of shipping costs. The idea is that you pay on basis of the combined costs to get the goods in your hands.

I don't know if those sellers would be able to supply, as I am informed by JinBao that there is an "exclusive agent for JBCB-450 in USA"?

However, I am just starting to import JinBao into the UK through my own company and can sell the JBCB-450 other than within the USA. If any Non-American TubeNeters wants one (or any other JinBao model) please free to contact me for a competitive price. I will then include in my next order from China.

Jonathan Hodgetts

Sean, if you are reading this, I will be contacting you regarding TubeNet Sponsorship as soon as I have stock to sell

Thanks guys for your support, and a particular thanks to Al Tippett who has kindly given me advice in getting things started this side of the pond (I would commend this seller to USA buyers - he seems to have real altruistic motives for selling inexpensive tubas).

Now I need to see if there is a market in the UK and mainland Europe to which I can equally well supply? I believe Chinese tubas have now reached a standard of quality that they are worth considering as an alternative and of course with Chinese wife I am well placed to do business with that part of the world

I asks the music-store Cologne/Rhine for a JinBao CC-450 and they assured, to take up this horn in their product range. ...and now I'm waiting and waiting...
That's the background to my question, whether I should order a M&M or Schiller per ebay- if it is the same horn.
Ulli
Ulli, I just browsed the musicstore Köln web site. They seems to have the silver plated CC-450, now with the new brand Monzani, in stock. If you go there and test it, please let us know how it played.

I have one of these at Wessex Tubas which through slide cutting now plays pretty well in tune unlike the standard model.

In modified form it is a 5/4 CC worth checking out!

As per the question , What has been done to the CC 5/4 M&M Tubas that we have brought to market

As what changes ? Bell, Tube size fit, and other small but inportent changes

We continue to make changes as our cliental asks and as we M&M come up with improvements to make this and are other products a great value

The standard 450 that we sell to dealers will not have these changes at this time

If you need a CC 5/4 They are well worth the investment

Thank you

I promise, this isn't meant to sound snarky. :D But shouldn't this issue have been obvious shortly after trying the horn?

This is not an answer to the man's question. It would be so much better for your reputation and "brand" if you would ignore questions like this entirely, rather than ignoring them while pretending to answer.
