Wedding music for large brass ensemble

Postby scottw » Tue May 15, 2012 11:54 pm

Anyone familiar with any arrangements for the Wagner and Mendelssohn? Instrumentation is: 5.5.5.2.2.+perc
I didn't find anything on Bryan's BVD site for a large group. Hickey's has an arrangement by LeClair and another by Herman; anyone familiar with either of these? Both use only 1 horn part, but we can make it work if need be. I need it in the next month if possible.
Any suggestions welcomed!
Thanks,

Maybe Boulder or Denver Brass will have something to sell or in their library?

Denver Brass has an arrangement of the Mendelssohn but it's 4.2.3.2+timp+cymbal.

If the church is big enough and the event formal enough don't forget Processional Entry by Strauss.
It is what we wanted to use but didn't have the space or the horns

Not familiar with this--thanks for the tip! I'll look for it.
Anyone used either of those arrangements I found? Hickey's, like King, is tough to buy from in that they [a]: do not show samples, sound or score, for pieces, and [b]: do not take returns. So, if the arrangement truly sucks, we are stuck with it.

The Richard Strauss, "Processional Entry (Feierlicher Einzug)", was originally for a massive brass ensemble that consisted of (if my memroy serves me correctly) over 20 trumpets in Eb. There were 4 horns, 3 or 4 trombones, two tubas and tympani. Our large version of the Homewood Brass Consort(http://www.homewoodbrass.com) uses a reduced arrangement by Brass Ring Editions that employs 4 trumpets in Bb, 1 horn, 4 trombones, tuba and tympani. It is quite strenuous, so, assistants, where possible will be welcome. There is another version of this piece that the quintet version of the Homewood Brass Consort uses for brass quintet and organ. Again, the brass parts are not for the faint of heart, but, the sound is worth it.

Ah yes, by the German name, I do know it. That is indeed powerful. What I am not familiar with is Brass Ring editions. Is this a publisher? Who distributes it?

To the best of my knowledge, Brass Ring Editions is a publisher. I believe that I got it from the Robert King catalog.

I'm sure there is a brass arrangement of this nice little tune somewhere: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XtmuXWCF ... 763F9E2EE3 ...never heard it played at a wedding though.
