Re: Thomann sousaphoneSlightly off topic, as I'm also looking at the brass one - I wonder how the spec (not playability, that's harder to comment on) compares to the Wessex sousa? Jonathan, any thoughts?

Re: Thomann sousaphoneOne has a 17.8mm bore, the other has a 19mm bore (which is larger than that of the Conn 20K).

Re: Thomann sousaphoneBut the Thomann is smaller bore than the Conn 20K, right? I guess it is similar to my King fibreglass (which you're welcome to try Jeff ...)

Re: Thomann sousaphoneRight now, there are several dirt-cheap (REAL - not Chinese knock-off) King sousaphones on eBay which all appear to be quite repairable.

Re: Thomann sousaphoneI don’t disagree with bloke’s suggestions, only EU citizens should be aware of the price formula which is not just about the end price of the given auction and then a calc of currency rates.
End price = (auction price + shipping costs) * (1+ custom %) * (1 + national VAT %) + costs of money transfer + costs of import declaration/handling

It's too bad that statism prompts consumers to consider purchasing choices that they might not otherwise consider. </sidebar>

Re: Thomann sousaphoneInterestingly enough, there were just a batch of King fiberglass sousies on Ebay in very similar condition - they each ended up going for around $300. My guess is that these will get a bit more, as they will clean up nicer. What do you think the dollar amount in repairs would be (on average) to get the replacement buttons, re-solder the instruments, etc.?
What should a used and repaired sousaphone end up going for?
Re: Thomann sousaphone
I cannot comment on the specs at present, as I am away without access to my catalogues. However I can say the brass one I sell is a real nice player, although heavy. However I do have an all fiberglass sousaphone on route from factory for an Irish band. A third option (which I have on order) is fiberglass with brass bell, which should lighten, but hopefully keep best sound. For that Thomann sousaphone - I really don't know how they can possibly sell so cheap???
Re: Thomann sousaphoneTo say Thomann bulk buy would be a massive understatement ...
