A "sculpture" at the City Museum, St Louis

20k, #177354, dates from 1921. Probably worth more as a souzie than as a lousy piece of art.

This looks to be some sort of Monster or Jumbo. No way of getting to it to get a better picture or a closer look. Lousy condition. Even lousier sculpture. Supposedly there is another souzie somewhere, I couldn't find it. I'll look for it next time.

I can't help be feel somewhat pissed off when I see stuff like that. It reminds me of taking a perfectly good '95 (etc.) Chevy 4WD pick-up with a strong 350 under the hood, putting crap on/around it, and calling it "art" (instead of hauling stuff with it).

How do you know it's still fixable and worthwhile to do so?

The University City (burb of St. Louis) library has a "sculpture" made out of two sousaphones hooked together. I really rather like it.
