if you're going to be accurate, get it right. It's a Raincatcher not a Helicon and it is a 48K. and, I will post pictures of the horn and the engraving DOES NOT say "The Chief",
but none the less, it is very nice engraving, and plays very well, if not a little mouthpiece sensitive, and bell position critical. IMHO

This one was at Tuba Christmas at Down Town Disney for a couple years. It was found in the attic of a private Christian school in San Diego by the young man wearing it.

Here is a picture of the one that I'm talking about, which I think is the same one that Bloke is talking about. I have done the play test
on this raincatcher and it is incredible. It is as bloke rumored about in incredible condition,, it does have an beautiful engraving of an Indian Chief in full head dress, but does not say "The Chief" The bell in the full raincatccher position put the sound so far away for a player it seems that their was an air leak, tilt hte bell forward 45 deg. and wo,. full body blow the house down huge sound. I had a 40K and it was an very easy blowing sousa, this 48K is just as easy a player. Instant response, but, damn heavy.
I'm working off a new computer so things, don't seem to want to go the way I want it. I will had a full line of photos next week. I'm off to a convention over the weekend.

HI Ian,
If I remember right, I think its 22" and the body is stamped 48K, But I don't recall checking the bell tenon. I have a 26" York Sousa bell, this isn''t that big. But it is nice.
I will upload all my pic's to a photobucket when I get back from convention and put them under a separate heading.

Until seeing the picture, I wasn't sure if this was a real posting or not.

Although I dislike the idea of cool old tubas living in a museum, this is about as museum-quality of a tuba as I've ever seen. Neat!

The engraving of (seems obvious to me - particularly due to the very strong resemblance) of Mr. Kuhn's face and headdress in the bell is very large, btw.

You could buy it for me....I am thinking about cornering the market on Jumbos

it's like the lottery.....you can always get excited for something...but in the end you'll still probably end up with nothing...but sometimes it's fun to get in on the hype....then usually it gets ridiculous.

I am personally waiting for an awesome Chinese replica of the CSO York that plays just like the original....and costs $750......

I don't like to play the lottery, but on the off chance that I blow $1 on a huge jackpot...the daydreaming that I have was usually worth the price of admission.

Over on another bass guitar forum, there was so much hype for a reissued Acoustic 360 bass amp.....it really had people going and excited....for years it was being hyped.....it too became un-fun.....I now could care less if it has been released or not....I've moved on....

...I'll admit though every now and then these hype fests are fun to daydream....but generally nothing ever happens or when it does.....it sucks.

I can't understand how some instruments survive so long in such great condition, while others just can't make it. As a near-antique myself, I really respect that instrument. It must diet and work out constantly...
