Back in 1971 or so I was inspired by Don Ellis to get an electronic octave doubler that worked with a pick-up on my trumpet mouthpiece (played through an almost blown out bass guitar speaker-amp.)

- sounded about like that...

I'm reminded of a trumpet playing friend I've known for 30+ years. I'll call him "Ron." A serious legit trumpet gear head. Another mutual trumpet playing friend that spent some time on Maynard Ferguson's band in the 80's was running a music store. I'll call him "Ray."

We were all standing around the store when the UPS guy drops off a bunch of boxes fresh from Schilke (back when they were on Wabash...). Inside was a shipment of piccolo trumpets (P5-4's for those interested).

"Ray" un-boxes the trumpets and proceeds to play what had to be his first ever notes on a piccolo. Being a screech "high note" specialist, he was rather proud of his piccolo accomplishment.

The room had fallen silent. People looked at their feet. Cleared their throats. Generally avoided eye contact. Until...

After a sip of coffee, "Ron" says rather stoically,"is that what a piccolo is supposed to sound like, I guess I've been doing it wrong all these years. I'm gonna have to sell off my horns and play the bongos instead."

The room erupted like a barrel of monkeys!

Oh, and, Aaaaaaaaaaaamen! :tuba: :D

Some of your other videos sound cool. The open mike thing inspired by YBBB's "Brooklyn" was well done. Honestly though, you absolutely need to get a better mike or adjust it better. The recording quality is worst than a cheap cassette tape recorder from the 80's. Once you fix that, maybe you can get a decent assessment.
