For the vintage horn people: My Bach trombone (a 1970's model 16) has a hand slide which is well worn and also suffering from some rot on the outer hand slide. Are hand slides candidates for rebuilds, or is a new part indicated?
If another manufacturer other than Bach can be used, I would consider that as well, in order to make a proper operation of the instrument at a reasonable cost.

Re: Question about repair vs. replacement
Hand slides can be rehabilitated. When I have visited Dan Oberloh's shop, Dan or Paul usually are working on at least one hand slide and usually there are many more in the queue waiting to be worked on.swillafew wrote:For the vintage horn people: My Bach trombone (a 1970's model 16) has a hand slide which is well worn and also suffering from some rot on the outer hand slide. So, yes hand slides can be repaired. Oberloh's is one place. He is in Seattle and there may be someone closer to where you are. Hand slides are easily shipped.

Re: Question about repair vs. replacement
I wouldn't let anyone but John or Ray touch my slides. They are very used to shipping. The last time I was in the shop he had two from Holland, one from Germany and one from GB packed and ready to ship out.

Re: Question about repair vs. replacement
My shop has a Jupiter new slide which fits the 16 pretty well... but a slide can be redone, especially a good Bach slide.

If I were two states closer to Cleveland, I'd drop in to test that slide. Thanks for the tip.
