wireless mics?

anybody ever try a wireless mic for a tuba / sousaphone?
recommendations on which models to use?

Sennheiser G2 or G3 used on ebay is a good deal, and good sound. Buy the set with the lapel mic, so you can clip it to the bell.

If your going to mic a Sousaphone I would recomend a wired Shure sm 57 taped to the actual bell. If you wanted to go wireless, well then I would try to experiment, as most smaller microphones may not pickup the lower frequency's that the tuba/sousaphone can produce, or if they do it might be rather poor. Any normal wired microphone that is on a boom stand pointed into the bell of a Tuab (about 6-12" away) is usually good unless you want more of a room sound (not good live) in which case you can move the mic a little higher from the tuba.

I use SD system LM95 mike (expensive but awesome sound) into a Line 6 wireless. They have never let me down and the price is great.

I also have the Sennheiser system, but prefer the Line 6. I have the lapel mike - it will work if you don't need to play around other loud instruments - otherwise it will be mass feedback.

My advice is get a good plugged in mike sound - then make it wireless.

The SD system is great as it has a preamp with an on/off switch which is brilliant for turning off when you empty out etc.
