Drum Throne

In reading the entries about the adaptation of the drum throne, I must have missed something. The removal of the foam padded seat followed by the placement of a wooden circle in the seat space. What material needs to be put on top of the wooden circle and what type of adhesive should be used. Thanks!

I bought some vinyl and stapled it to the underside with a heavy duty stapler and it's held up just fine for me. I can take photos tomorrow if you'd like to see what I did!

Okay, here we go! I started off by having a friend cut me a piece of 3/4" plywood the same diameter as the throne base (6"). Gave the seat to the percussionists at school to replace a beat-up one.


My first try at a cover was that cheesecloth style shelf liner that has puffy little sections, but they got crushed quickly and I had to replace the cover way more often than I liked. My next try was another kind of shelf liner, but this one is more like a slightly spongey vinyl, and very grippy. This one's lasted two months so far with minimal sign of wear, so I'm quite happy with it. I cut two rectangles of it and crossed them over the top, stapling them neatly underneath.

Hope this helps! In my opinion, the most important thing when picking out your throne is to get one that is completely adjustable- not the kind that has little pegs that adjust the height. I find that the difference in height between the stand being very comfortable to use and very hard on my back is minute so it's really important to be able to have total control.
