Extremely proud of my students, who in 4 short weeks prepared a wonderful concert for our summer program - which included four large ensembles, and 3 chamber groups - last night. Listened to the recording today, and while it certainly has its flaws, it is overall a great performance by such a young group of students.

I saw a BUNCH of people doing that last night, so I guess the word is getting out.
I'm going to show mine by flushing the toilet right after I use it. Such a small gesture can go a long way in achieving peace and harmony.

To avoid Olympics spoilers, I have stopped reading/watching the news, except around midnight after Bob Costas says goodnight to America. Apparently I missed something about Chic-fil-A? :?

Summer seems to have arrived in Oregon, finally. Temps will push 100 today. Time for a motorcycle ride.

UPDATE:

Due to unforeseen circumstances, I am now staring at the presence of no fewer than three boxes of unfrosted S'mores Pop-Tarts® in my room. I don't want to talk about it. Thank you for your consideration.

As is my want during the dog-days of summer, I wake up early to enjoy what little cool air there is in my fair burg, drink coffee, and read the paper. As I was setting aside the crossword puzzles, I happened upon a daily confection called "Miss Manners". I generally do not read the filler pap, but what caught my eye was a letter from a viola player (a professional who has had a distinquished career in Europe and North America) complaining a bout the seeming denigration of his virtuous instrument by the rabble that attends his concerts. In her answer, Judith Martin, Miss Manners herself, opines " It's not just you. Talk to tuba players; they complain that everyone thinks they are slow-witted and fat".

The public has one out of two right on this one.

Well, I am trying to be a kinder and gentler human being. Beats asking them to show me their tax returns. I usually like a longer read than that.

I recently took a part-time consulting job in addition to my regular full-time career. Long days, but the money and professional experience is really quite good. As much as I want to put it all straight in my "tuba fund," it's all going in the "house downpayment fund" instead. Both jobs I work at home. I'm sleeping about 4 hours a night right now and really, I feel just as good as when I would get 8 or 9. That's my update!

You should move to TN then. I am looking at a HUD house / bank foreclosure for $100 down. Even -I- can come up with that!!!
(selling for 1/3 less than appraisal and 3.5% interest rate ain't bad either)
