Wright State University will be hosting its annual Low Brass Festival and the Miami Valley Low Brass Solo Competition on December 7-8.
The Miami Valley Solo Competition will have prizes for the first prize winners of the Artist divisions ($200) and first prize winners of the student divisions ($100).
Now in its 4th year, the Wright State University Low Brass Festival has grown into a recurring solo competition and festival. The purpose of the event is to promote low brass instruments in southern Ohio through performances and master classes. High school students, college students, amateurs, & professionals are welcome to attend! The competition is open to high school & and college students and will be held on Friday, December 7th. Click the Miami Valley Low Brass Solo Competition link above for more information! The Low Brass Festival is held on Saturday, December 8th and will feature the following:
- Master Classes and performances by hosts Dr. Gretchen McNamara & Mr. Tom Lukowicz
- Master Classes and performances by guest artists from the United States Air Force Band of Flight from Wright Patterson Air Force Base
- Ensemble Experience in the Festival Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble, Trombone Choir and Low Brass Ensemble
- Performances by the winners of the Miami Valley Low Brass Solo Competition
- Vendors will be on site with instruments to try, and music and supplies to purchase
- Cost of the event is $35 This covers competition entry, all master classes, recitals, and events of the day. Also included is a catered lunch and t-shirt
- Everyone should bring an instrument and participate in the clinics and workshops.
- All festival events will take place on the campus of Wright State University at the Creative Arts Center.
The festival will conclude at 6:30 pm. All participants are invited to break for dinner and return for a free and open to the public performance by PRISM BRASS a brass and percussion ensemble made up from members of the United States Air Force Band of Flight.
