I just learned that Amazon.com won't ship pocket knives to NYC. What a hassle!

Someday, you're going to have to immigrate to America.

What, and just go around buying larger than 16 oz sodas as much as I choose? :P And live in a place where cigarettes don't cost $12.50 per pack? (I'm not a smoker, but just sayin...)

I've been off line since Friday at 4PM. A screen popped up on my McAfee "protected" computer that said,
"Your computer has been locked!
It went on to say that the reason my computer was locked because I downloaded copywrited material without permission and could be unlocked by paying a fine to the International Computer Police Authority. I learned this is a class of trojan called ransomware. I had to reinstall windows 7 and bring my conputer back to it's original factory state to get all the errors off the hard drive. I am just now getting my corporate emails and files back. I have had a long weekend and an unpaid vacation day today doing what I most love........jacking with a bleeping computer! I would love to get my hands on the jackass that did this. I would almost as much love to get my hands on the jerks at McAfee who allowed it to happen on their watch and wanted $250 to help me fix it. Computers suck!

As I understand it, this is not a virus and none of the antivirus programs will protect you. This requires a firewall, which I had with McAfee but it was ineffective for this and I didn't know it. At least Norton's firewall does some good.

No Spybot. I have had really good luck with Norton 360. Never a problem. I have had McAfee on 2 computers in the last 10 years and this happened to both. The good news is that I am back to fully functional about 30 minutes ago. I can service my clients again and earn a living. Woooopeee!

IMHO McAfee's last good product was VS-7 (Virus Scan 7)... and that was quite some time ago. I haven't used (or trusted) McAfee for about 4 or 5 years. I now use the free version of "avast!" — which has worked really well. But AVG is pretty good too.

An excellent good free Virus/Trojan removal tool is Malwarebytes.

Could it have those photos of Kate??????????????????????????? Actually I downloaded some brass recordings from the CSO website the same day but I don't think that had anything to do with the locked message. I had been having trouble with my Mcafee firewall for a couple of weeks. That failure was what caused the problem. Maybe they were monitoring the music websites and picked me thinking that I might be intimidated into sending money. As I understand it now the whole thing is just a shill to get money from unsuspecting folk. The trojan I got has a funny long name but it is generally referred to as Ransomware. Evidently this is going around. There was a feature on an Atlanta TV channel this weekend. I did use malwarebytes to get rid of it, but the trojan had gunked up my computer so bad I had to do a factory reset to get rid of the remainng hard disk errors. Everybody please keep your firewall up and running or stay off the web.

Two days ago somebody backed into my car in my apartment parking lot and smashed in the rear bumper. As was done with my wife's car a few months ago, the person never took responsibility. We eventually were able to locate that person. However, it is proving harder this time, as most of the cars in that parking lot have bumpers with both corners completely smashed in and lots of other cracks in them, and most of the cars are driven without insurance by people who aren't citizens, many of which don't even have license plates. At least we have to move out in a few days because our lease is up and someone was already on hold to fill the apartment (cheap apartments go like hotcakes.)

Not only can I pick my nose, I can do a much better job than that. Photographic evidence will be forthcoming. The chick does look like my kind, though.

Hey guys, I'm back from lunch! I just had a... oh... wait... crap. Should I not have done that?

[For real though, I can't remember the last time I ate beef, let alone a steak of any kind!]

Seriously, if I'm playing an outdoor gig, I am wearing lots of that, even if it's got double Fucik. My great nephew in South Arkansas just got diagnosed. Down in these parts it's no laughing matter. West Nile is some serious stuff!
