black tuba

Post by ken k »

hello fellow tubenetters,

harv hartman cleaned up an old yamaha YBB103 for me and lacquered it black just for fun. He had recently black-lacquered a Conn 2J for Matt Brown and Matt had some lacquer left over, so we bought a quart and sprayed my yammie. I have used this on a dixie trio gig with a Neotech harness and it is great for strolling. It has a perfect sound for the trio. The one thing I do not like about it is the spacing of the valves. The third valve is offset and designed more for little hands, so I need to really curve my fingers or play from the second knuckle, either technique works actually....

And then it is elephant approved!

A couple running a restaurant here in my town had toured Europe as musical clowns in various circus companies. She once told me that due to boredom horses and elephants became very destructive. So she and her husband had it in their contracts that their act could not be scheduled right before or after a horse or elephant act, as they didn’t want their instruments snatched by an evil animal passing by them.
