Amati Piston F Tubas
Anyone played an Amati AFB 212 3 Piston F Tuba (or the similar AEB 211 Eb)? Thoughts?

I agree, but still think it funny that 3v Ebs are fine...yes, I have one.

At least with the 3valve EEb you get the low BBb.

Re: Amati Piston F Tubas
I have a 3/4 size Amati Eb tuba with 3 piston valves. Could this be the model he's asking about? Mine's a stencil and says "Boosey & Hawkes" on it. But it's full Amati.
How is it? It's terrible.

Not really interested in buying one, I was just wondering to myself why they would make a 3-valve F tuba. I agree that there would be no low range, which is why I wondered why they were producing them.KiltieTuba wrote:First off... why would you want a three-valve F tuba? Three valve F tuba is the bass voice used for the first tuba parts in a brass band or biergarten band, ja?

Usuallay it's used for the „Tuba 1“ part in German, Austrian and Czech Blasmusik. You mainly double the Bb tuba one octave higher to make the sound more defined which means better to hear the bass line notes and not only umpah. Hence you usually don't have to go very far under the staff.
