Post Your Horn Collection! : Tuba dorn Time

Post by gillish »

Hi everyone! I'd love to see what everyone has in their tuba/brass collection. From one horn to twenty (or however many), I'm inviting you to show them off! Post all of them, or just your favorite one. You choose.

My horns are:

- 1917 Conn sousaphone with a gold wash bell (possibly gold plated over the silver) (just purchased this, so better pictures coming when it arrives)
- Some kind of balkan tenor horn with rotary valves of unknown origin & age. It came with the original tag, which is in Serbian, so I am unable to determine much from it. What can make out is that it is numbered as "horn number 45". Will scan the tag in another post to see if anyone can help decipher it.
- 1965 King 1240 with detachable Recording Bell

Front row in front of the drum set.. left to right: a bass guitar I haven't mastered yet!, a 12-bass accordion, the famous Conn 4V 'Frankenhelicon', Miraphone 1291 5V with Matt Dillon AGR and fifth valve tuned to 2-3 combination, Marzan 'Solo' (Willson-made), King 'pit model'.

Clock-wise from left to right starting behind the bass guitar: King 'Liberty' trumpet (in case), Olds 'Mendez' trumpet (in case), Marzan piston tuba, Marzan 'slant-rotor' tuba, Buescher double-belled euphonium, Conn 28K (4V Eb) sousaphone, custom BBb cimbasso, Devil's Fiddle (behind cimbasso), Olds euphonium (inside bag), Linton contra-bass clarinet (behind Olds euph), King 1241 BBb (updated to 2341 configuration), King 'trombonium' (with bell peeking over floor tom, Conn 48K 'Jumbo' 4V sousaphone, Selmer 'Signet' commode-O-phone, and at the far right in back... a Holton 'short-action' sousaphone.

You can also see the 'collection' on my web page here: http://thevillagetinker.com/my_horns.htm

Whoa, now that is quite a collection! I used to own a Conn 24K Eb sousaphone myself, but recently sold it to help fund the Bb sousa purchase. That Conn Jumbo is HUGE!! What's the age on that thing? I love the gold bell.

I've only been playing tuba for 3 years now (though I've been playing brass for 15), and I love it. I'm learning to appreciate the many different tubas in the world. Thanks for sharing!

Conn serial numbers are not exact. But... most likely, the 'Jumbo' was made in 1928.
