Hi,
Can anyone give me some recommendations for good brass instrument repair shops in or near the Minneapolis-St.Paul area. The father of a friend of mine needs to have work done on his trumpet. He's always taken meticulous care of it himself. He's played this horn for over 70 years and has been reluctant to entrust it to someone he didn't know. My friend has finally been able to convince him but wants to be sure everything is done right. I don't know what work needs to be done. Thanks, in advance, for any info you all can provide.
Pete

Cadenza Music on Snelling in St. Paul is good. Ask for Laurel Chapman. Laurel is a tuba player and a good tech. If you're after the very best, take a drive down to see Lee Stofer in Comanche, IA (near Cedar Rapids). He will take a bit longer but he is the very best. I'm going to see him in a few weeks, I might be able to take your horn down with me if you make pre-arrangements with Lee.

Actually, Lee's shop is about 100 miles from Cedar Rapids, north of the Davenport, IA area along the Mississippi River.opus37 wrote: If you're after the very best, take a drive down to see Lee Stofer in Comanche, IA (near Cedar Rapids).

Eric Peterson is probably the best in the Twin cities. Dennis Pollard graduated from the repair school in Red Wing and has done some guest lecturing at Red Wing as well. Dennis help me with the dent work on my york eb sousaphone, he's pretty good. Dennis works at Davenport Music. Carl Peterson is very good as well. I graduated with Carl from the school in Red Wing. Carl was a machinist for many years, if you need something fabricated, Carl is your guy. You could also take it to the school in Red Wing. John Huth, Greg Beckwith, and Lucus Pemberton run a very good school. Good luck.

I just saw this and though it is an old thread, thought I'd reply anyway.
I Eric Peterson and he does excellent quality repairs and part fabrication.
I've heard of Lee but haven't worked with him or seen his work.
I no longer work at Cadenza Music. I now have my own repair shop in the Ivy building 2637 27th ave. S. Minneapolis. Contact me through Tubenet, Linkedin, or Facebook to set up an appointment.
