Re: Alpine Horn??
It's the valved version of what was know in Germany as a posthorn.
The bore works out to be about that of a cornet.

Re: Alpine Horn??
You've GOT to be kidding! There's no comparison between the original post and the Meinl Weston horn.bort wrote:http://www.meinlweston.com/melton-meinl ... 4-316.html" target="_blank

Re: Alpine Horn??
Certainly NOT trying to draw comparisons, just trying to give more information about "what is it?"

Re: Alpine Horn??
Amati makes on that is nearly identical.

I've actually seen some German or Austrian town bands that have several in the ensemble; perhaps only for "novelty" tunes. I'm not certain.

Oh, I know. However... in my original post I was just being a smart-*** by basically pointing out that the one on Ebay is just a cheap toy designed to extract dollars from dumb Americans.bort wrote:Certainly NOT trying to draw comparisons, just trying to give more information about "what is it?"

Rather it is called a valved Fürst Pless Horn, the Bb hunting horn.

Re: Alpine Horn??
I think Klaus said the preferred key for an Alphorn is Gb. The one I bought is 11' 3" long. The best I can figure... that should be good for Gb (or F#). We already have two of them at the 'German club' and they have convertible top sections. One's section is about 6" longer than the one we normally use.bloke wrote:席勒阿爾卑斯山號?
re: alpenhorns,
A horn player told me those are built in both F and F#.
Sort of like "low pitch" and "high pitch" versions...
Which did you get?

The G♭ one sounds very "dark", whereas the F♯ one sounds very "bright".
