Re: Things a great tuba spouse says:
We have just had our 24th wedding anniversary, I found that the appropriate gift for this anniversary is a musical instrument. I asked if I could have a new tuba, she replied " not if you want to make it to the 25th"

Not strictly tuba but: The darling non-musician wife said: "Harry James didn't really play all those fast notes - he just twiddled his fingers across the valves quickly". Explanation re Harry James - we are of a certain age you might have noticed.

After I played the ITEC Semifinal this afternoon on a Tuba I borrowed from a friend, my wife told me: "you played great. I realized you hat to correct the intonation of the instrument. (slide pulling) I think we should buy you an instrument that works better with you"

(when going out of town) "I'd LOVE to fly home early to go to your concert!"
Took some pictures and videos too, some of which I've posted here.
Am I a lucky guy, or what?

Re: Things a great tuba spouse says:
"The bass trombone sounded unusually rich tonight". After a concert where she sang and I played the bass trombone parts, and/or tuba parts, all on tuba. Guess she doesn't like blatty bass. She also mustn't look up from her music much.
I am fortunate to have a great job that feeds my family well, but music feeds my soul.

ooohhh... pretty! When did you get that one? Can't wait to hear you play it. When's the next concert where you'll be using it?

Re: Things a great tuba spouse says:
As one who plays both trumpet and tuba regularly, my wife (who has perfect pitch but does not play an instrument) has said...
"If you are going to play the trumpet, take it in the other room and use a mute. I hate the trumpet!"
"You can play the tuba anytime, wherever you want. It sounds nice."
And then recently when searching for a new home...
"This bonus room is HUGE. You can fit both pianos and all of your tubas and other instruments with soooo much room to spare. I like it!"
Of course, the bonus room sits away from the rest of "her" house.

Spouse: How much did that Jumbo Sousaphone set us back? Ten grand?
Me: No. only about a third of that.
Spouse: What a great deal! where is it going to fit with all of your other Tubas?
