Whenever my wife and I go to see an orchestra, I joke that we're about 40 years younger than everyone else around us...MartyNeilan wrote:In all seriousness, THIS is exactly what orchestras need to do more often to bring in subscribers. The average Gen X / Gen Y potential listener does not have a clue what a Mahler symphony is. A guy playing The Grinch on a massive horn is sure to attract attention.

I was lucky enough to catch the ISO's program last night. Mr. Kniffen's performance was just the tip of the holiday iceberg. The ISO brought in a LOT of talent to make it happen- singers/dancers/circus performers. Plenty to catch the crowd's attention there; and the crowd was enthusiastic for the "show." Seems that programs with these kinds of features could be a "gateway" through which people could be introduced to classical music.MartyNeilan wrote:In all seriousness, THIS is exactly what orchestras need to do more often to bring in subscribers.
