Tuba Tech Thread

My tuba's OS allows for many bit errors to occur. The manual punchcard levers of the 1950s are challenging to upgrade: after much rewiring and installing a vacuum tube system I am looking forward to installing Cougar Windows OS on my instrument, which should eliminate all errors while performing, and provide entertainment for after the concert.

I broke the seal on the blackbox and voided the warranty. Now I'm screwed. Tech service is no help.

Looks like I have to go back to lip flexibility exercises.

As someone from the old mainframe era, when I went to school we needed practice rooms adjacent to the cold rooms for those big mothers. I started out on a Burroughs 7000, and had my own removable disk pack for each key (F,Eb,CC,BBb).
They took up a lot of space, but were fast as lightning once you got them going. Coldstart was a bitch, though.

Cards or tape ? eee lad, that's luxury!! we had to manually code in the IBL on the front panel switches!!

Back in the day, we didn't all that fancy ****, we made due with a manual typewriter and any old ribbon we had laying around. If it was clunker, you just made it work. You kids have it so good now, one click and you get all your answers. Geesh.

I've wasted lots of time during the Holiday Season trying to incorporate Ajax into the javascript that's behind my Ruddy-Miner's web interface. My thinking is that the tuba can pre-load all of the pitches and fingerings needed for that gig during warm-up. That way they would be available instantaneously during what should be a stellar performance. Instead, now every time I start into a more technically challenging passage the *^%^%$#$ tuba jolts me with a strong electrical shock. The resulting muscle tetany causes me to toss the tuba across the room involuntarily. What was a still new-looking Ruddy-Miner is now beat to he!!, and I'm not a happy tooter either. Is that an add-on chip for the leadpipe? I am assuming Windows, since it is an X86 series chip...

If you're lipping pitches at all, you'll want the 187 Floating Pitch Unit to go with it -- it speeds things up like you wouldn't believe!
