Congratulations. Hope you like bologna!Lew wrote:It's official, as of Fall 2013 I will be an associate professor of business at Lebanon Valley College in Pennsylvania. Still looking for a community band or 2 to join in the area. It looks like there is one in Lebanon, PA, but they look like they have a lot of tubas already. At least now I will be close enough to drive to the Army Band Conference.

No offense intended if this applies to anyone here...
But I think there's nothing dorkier than holding up an iPad to take pictures of things. See that all the time around the city here, tourists holding up this giant 10" tablet to take pictures. I can't help but think of 1980s cell phones when I see it.

Hell.... I think the idea of holding up just a cellphone to take pictures looks pretty stupid. If you want to take pictures... get a camera for Pete's sakes!bort wrote:No offense intended if this applies to anyone here...

What's even worse is morons at concerts holding up cellphones with a picture of a Bic lighter on it!

Going to see the NY Phil tomorrow night, they are playing Bruckner 6. Very excited for it!
Well... that's really tomorrow's update. But I know I'll forget to post it.

Just finished my first week of Armorer school. I can now fill out a LOT of paperwork and fix any M240 series weapon and can fix up your MK19. Next is the M4, M203, M9, M249, M2, and the M500. Just another day in the Army Band.

The basement has been cleaned out. The two rooms to be finished await. Tomorrow I start. I'll be stringing wires and installing outlet boxes.

Woke up this morning,it was 22 degrees outside. Worked outside most of the day pruning rose bushes, pulling out Florabunda roses that were a little too bunda and not enough flora, never got above 35 degrees. A warm day in Wisconsin, but I LIVE IN THE FRICKIN' DESERT. Watch out everyone, it's coming your way.You have been updated.

Re: Update Update
Just finished shredding reams of old insurance commission statements as part of the ongoing basement renovation project. I kept one from January 1980, my first one. I made a sum total of $9.40 that month. I sure am glad I didn't quit 'cause it sure got a lot better over time.

UPDATE:
Heading back to work after a vacation. I suspect that most of my day will be spent on catch-up, unless the citizens have other ideas for me...
In other news (but wait; it is musically related, so maybe it might not count) the Community Concert Band starts its winter season on Tuesday night. I think I am going to take a borrowed 186 to see if the director notices a difference coming from the tuba section.
It is cold but dry in Eugene. Our high yesterday was 29.

My wife watched the last part of the Miss America competition, so I caught bits and pieces of it. I could not believe how bad the singing was.

I lasted about 3 seconds before I had to leave the room because the ringing in my ears didn't cover it.
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

Finally digitizing some old cassettes, and found some 4 track experiments I'd done back in the mid '80s. https://soundcloud.com/unclebeer/au-privave

Re: Update Update
Some were by a friend named Rich Shemaria, who now teaches at NYU. The others were mine. Not for sale; sorry. And yeah, I overdubbed all the parts.the elephant wrote:Are any of these arrangements available to purchase? What is the info on them? GREAT JOB! Are they your arrangements? Is it you on all the tracks, or is this an ensemble?
It was a Fostex X15 which I still own. Who knew all this (and much more!) could so easily be done nowadays on a PC!the elephant wrote:Also, was that your old Tascam 4 track I bought at Glen's on the square back in 1988? HAHAHA!!!
Thanks for the kind words.
