So, after 10 days on the road and a late night last night getting home, I am awakened this morning far earlier than my intended arisal time by a phone call. The Redhead answers and passes the phone to me.
"I'm calling about the tuba in your Craigslist ad."
"Uh, what?"
"Yeah, you have a tuba being listed."
"No, I don't."
"I just clicked on your number--it's right here."
"It must be a scam."
"Okay, sorry."
So, some guy has posted an ad, which pictures something like a Yamaha 321, giving my name, address, and phone number, and attaching a $25 price.
I've flagged it as a violation of CL's terms and conditions, and I hope it goes away.
Strangely, though, only the one call. Nobody has any love for Yammies, apparently.
Is there a way I can find out who did this?f I've used the feedback form and sent a message to CL, but I have little hope that they will do anything. (I never trusted those peace signs.)

Sounds more like a practical joke than a scam.
Putting in the wrong phone number defeats the purpose of a scam.

I've got some suspicions, based on the timing, that it was a guy in another forum where I'm a moderator whom I banned yesterday. So, a practical joke, but really more like a little revenge.

CL should certainly have the IP address of the culprit. They should block him from CL as well.

Re: Need help chasing down a Craigslist scam...
So far, I've only gotten two calls, which I think is hilarious. If the jerk had put a $250 price tag on it, I'd be flooded, I expect. It's just too good to be true--the exact words of the second caller when I explained the situation to him.bloke wrote:A nonexistent Yamaha 321 on the internet, I'd wager, is a lot less trouble than a nonexistent girlfriend.
The perp (if it's who I think it is) also registered my email address with a number of dorn sites. I had a dozen requests to confirm my membership all within a ten-minute period of when the CL ad was posted. And I had a report from a friend on a mail list that email to me was bouncing because of "violations".
So far, Craigslist has done precisely nothing in response to my flags and messages.

Looks like you made the right call in banning that individual...
The only suggestions I have are ones you've tried.

Yeah, I read about that yesterday.Northernlb wrote:My comment was in addition to bloke's who referenced a Notra Dame football player who was hoaxed about his girlfriend.
And, yes, the bannee fully confirmed the action by his subsequent behavior.
