Re: Update Update
The weathermen are getting stupid tonight! No actual warnings yet but all the local stations are aglow with their weather maps and radar images. Guess I can stay up for another hour or so.
(edit)... the storms that were expected around midnight arrived with plenty of fanfare from the local media. But.... they 'fizzled' miserably. At daybreak, they found one tree down in an alley about 25 miles north of here and a river camp trailer turned over about the same distance south of here.
Gotta love those weatherman!

Re: Update Update
Thanks for the info. I would assume that these precautions would not be necessary unless the wall was covered with sheetrock on both sides and had wiring in it. I only have the outside walls that meet this criteria and they are already firestopped.scottw wrote:The problem area is at the top of the new studwall. A fire that starts behind the new wall can travel unimpeded up the back of the studs and burn the floor above or get into the ceiling [especially with a suspended ceiling common in basements] and continue throughout the house. The top of the wall must be [again, under most codes] properly firestopped to prevent this occurring. This may be a layer of 5/8 fire-rated drywall or a batt of "rotten-cotton" fire-rated insulation, depending upon the direction of the joists above. And of course, every penetration must be sealed with a red fire-rated caulk or other such measure. No one said it would be easy! [In case you wonder, I used to be a basement specialist a few years ago, when people actually HAD money to improve their home.]tbn.al wrote:I may have obliterated the obvious in my initial post. My outside walls have crips and fire resistant insulation. The inside walls are where it is not necessary according to our code. I am just putting up sheetrock, mostly inside walls, and finishing it. The basement was built according to 1996 code.

Re: Update Update
I recently bought some razors from this website, and I'm loving them (and what I paid for them) so far.
http://www.dorcousa.com/" target="_blank
I had run across this website:
http://www.dollarshaveclub.com/" target="_blank
and I was actually considering signing up with them. Then a little research showed that Dollar Shave Club buys all their razors from DORCO - but that you're paying DSC for the convenience of them sending you a few a month.
(No connection to any of the sellers, just happy with what I bought, and thought I'd share here.)

Oh, come on, there's a lot of weirder posts in this thread. But maybe I should have put it in this thread instead . . .LJV wrote:Bucky, that has to be one of the weirdest posts in while!

Re: Update Update
Huge waste of money. I mean, taking into account the number of men who buy those razor cartridges ... what a scam! I remember the little cartoons, in the advertisements back in might have been the late '60s, where the little whisker stub jumps up only to be nailed by the trailing blade. Who knew that generations of men would all be suckered in?Uncle Buck wrote:I recently bought some razors

Blades are cheap, last a long time. Any holder will do - mine's some old gold-plated relic that I got at a flea market.
I've tried the straight razor, which of course gets you out of buying blades altogether, but did not find it usable.

Re: Update Update
Yeah, I stopped using those when my two-year-old son got into a box of blades, that was in a high cabinet we never thought he could get to, and was playing with them, had them spread all over. He wasn't hurt, but I won't switch back until all of our kids are a little older.Donn wrote:Huge waste of money. This norovirus stuff I have been dealing with for the past few days made me feel worse than anything in my adult life. It is some wicked stuff. Hope nobody else gets it.

Re: Update Update
There have been some deaths, among healthy adults who didn't understand how bad off they were until it was too late. If there's someone around when you get to the stage where you're mumbling and incoherent, they can call 911 and get you on the saline I-V and you'll be all right. If you're alone, you die - no one is strong enough to go on without fluids.

Re: Update Update
I called my Dr. daughter expecting a prescription and was told to drink a glass of water. She called me every 4 hours for three days to tell me to drink a glass of water. At least I didn't dehydrate.

Re: Update Update
Believe it or not, the Ravens won.
Question is, will they completely implode next season, like they did after their first championship?
