What are your hobbies?

Post by Nick Lukefahr »

I was thinking to myself... I'm a pretty strange guy with some of my hobbies. So I was wondering what some other people 'strange' hobbies might be around here (Besides the best one of all of course, the tuba!)

Some of my more interesting hobbies include:

Flying R/C stunt helicopters and airplanes
Solving Rubik's cube style puzzles
Geocaching (looking for tupperware in the woods with a GPS :P )

How about you? :tuba:

I started homebrewing a few months ago. It's pretty easy to get started, but it's time to really start learning more about it.

It's funny to think about money with my other hobbies... $3,000 in tuba money isn't going to do a whole lot, but it'd probably take me years to spend $3,000 on homebrewing stuff (plus, I don't think I'd really want to!).

If it doesn't feel like work and you love doing it, I'd count it as a hobby.

I used to play sports and do stuff. Oh well.

I like firearms, Swiss Army knives, and tablets.

I haven't done it much since we bought our house and don't have our basement in order yet, but I build plastic model airplanes, WWII exclusively (I have yet to build a jet!). I also have done some oil paintings ala Bob Ross.

Here's the last model I completed (I finished it fall of 2011, so you can see how often I get around to that hobby)

And here's a painting I did (it was actually a commission!):

I spend a lot of time reading about English grammar, and not writing a book about it.

Playing my euph in a community band is my hobby. I also Geocach ( terra_trek http://www.geocaching.com/profile/" target="_blank ). I just took advantage of this freaky warm weather we had yesterday and hid a new one. I'm just waiting for it to be approved.

Great to see other instrument-playing geocachers out there :)

1. Performing music. Currently I'm playing in a concert band, wind ensemble, church band and pit orchestra.
2. Instrument repair. Currently I'm overhauling a Tenor Sax for my wife, and she's got an Alto Sax for me to do as well.
3. Insomnia (which explains why I'm typing this at 2 AM. Good night, TubeNet.)

That is excellent! I have always wanted to learn to fly and to own/build my own airplane. Being a teacher though, it's probably something I'll never be able to afford.

Playing tuba is one of my hobbies.

I also ride motorcycles, camp, and have been known to grill on occasion.

It's amazing to see all of the other people interested in flight! (RC airplanes, model airplanes, actual sized airplanes)

Currently I am teaching myself to do brass repair work. Dents, solder, all that fun stuff. Putting a trumpet back together right now. It's tons of fun. (I do need to find a trumpet bell for it if anyone has one laying around)

I used to study Tae-Kwon-Do and was at one time a second degree black belt with a few Junior Olympic medals. Decided after a number of broken bones and one near fatal battle in the ring that music is much nicer on the body.
