Re: Alex 163 CC on Craigslist, legit?
Hmm... Well I have seen high school kids with more expensive horns than these so while it's not normal, it still could happen. It does look pretty nice, doesn't look like too old of a horn. However, it seems to have a half step fifth valve. That seems to be an older Alex kind of thing or at least not something that is ordered much these days. It's hard to tell from looking at it. Ask where he got it. If it was a big name store ask them and see what they say. Search the web to see if you can find a stolen ad for an Alexander. Ask for the story of the horn and use your best judgement. That seems like a good price for an Alex but it's not dirt cheap, especially since it doesn't have the flat whole step valve.TheHatTuba wrote:http://reno.craigslist.org/msg/3509467221.html" target="_blank" target="_blank
This has been for sale for awhile. Originally, it was posted as a BBb. Now it's a CC, but the "was my kid's in high school" thing sounds odd for a tuba like this.
Does anyone know the seller or the horn? I'd like to check it out, but obviously not if it's hot...

I just emailed him too asking a few general questions, and I got an automated response saying that he's only allowing emails from approved senders.

Re: Alex 163 CC on Craigslist, legit?
Here is my story
I had emailed the owner on Feb 4.
She emailed me back a few hours later. At that point I checked the email address and it seemed to check out as someone who lived in Sparks, NV and even found a facebook page which seemed to match.
Feb 5 I emailed her to see if I wanted the Tuba would she ship it? She said Yes, As soon as I "WIRE MONEY". At that point It seemed like it could be a scam. I respond there after confirming it was CC? She wrote back yes
Feb 6 I asked if I choose to fly to NV could I try it... And nothing was written back. So Yesterday I resent the email. Today she wrote back it was sold.
So either someone got a great deal on this horn or She decided I was to serious and the scam wouldn't work on me.

Re: Alex 163 CC on Craigslist, legit?
The listing is gone. Apparently either a scam or just a pawn shop person trying to figure out what to call something while getting snide comments from the tuba community. If it's legit... they are probably regrouping to post a more comprehensive advertisement.
Sometimes I feel a little sorry for the folks who are trying to sell stuff without knowing exactly what it is.
