What is the big tuba?

Post by Dean E »

Hello,

Anyone know what the horn is or the showroom's location, please?

One guy is faking it since he has no mouthpiece.

It's a Miraphone 186. The two men are just really small.

It seems to be the biggest playable tuba in the world, as german newspapers wrote. The guy in pic 1 is the one that made the tuba, guy in pic 2 is the one that played it in concert. Watch a video on the buildig process of the tuba here (unfortunately only in german):

The first pic is of the builder of the tuba, Hartmut Geilert. The second pic is of the guy who premiered it, Jorg Wachsmuth. It is the 'Riesentuba', a gigantic BBBb tuba.

The tuba is set to be displayed as part of the Musikmesse festival in Frankfurt, between 10-13 April.
