Seems to me that we could polish to a high state, degrease like we were going to apply lacquer, then apply this stuff as a protectant and be done with it for some time. Eighty years sounds impressive, but remember that this is for items that will not be touched at all save by the gloved hands of curators. On a horn used for work it surely would not last even half of that; maybe one tenth the time. I would be happy if it lasted a single year on high contact/high wear spots. Still, very interesting...
(Although you can use silverware to eat food...)
