Maybe the quality improved?bloke wrote:...so inflation is a much smaller factor, whereas "available lottery scholarship money", "widely-flowing student loan dough", and "supply/demand (no jobs, thus a whole bunch of people grabbing free money to go to school, since they can't find jobs)" have mostly jacked tuition, then...??

I bet the 2013-2014 Robert Morris Colonials would beg to differ.talleyrand wrote:Enjoy it while you can.Biggs wrote: Getting dumped from the NIT in the first round? Yeah, I guess I have to acknowledge he's the best at that...

Could be. There's no end of delusional thinking. But my guess is they're glad they caught the team with no bench.Biggs wrote:I bet the 2013-2014 Robert Morris Colonials would beg to differ.talleyrand wrote:Enjoy it while you can.Biggs wrote: Getting dumped from the NIT in the first round? Tubby made it to the real tournament, won in the first round, and still got fired! You'd think Calipari would be losing sleep, but fortunately for him Kentucky fans don't mind getting clowned by the Northeast Conference regular season champion.talleyrand wrote:Could be. So, it turns out the discount rate at UM is slightly north of 0%. That means it would almost certainly be cheaper, and maybe a lot cheaper, for the OP (if the family is of average means) to go to Yale.

Either that, or they're going into significant debt. It turns out the total of all undergraduate "merit scholarships" (i.e., tuition discounts) at UM is about $4-million, a small fraction of their undergraduate tuition revenue.sloan wrote:Mostly, they play basketball, not tuba.

Universities now bill like hospitals. Those who can afford it, pay. Those who cannot, don't.

To Sloan's point about playing basketball, one should not overlook the importance of the astonishingly high paying FedEx internships that UM basketball players get so much more often than the general student population.
I used to blame Calipari for that. But then he came to UK and the high dollar internships kept going to UM players.
Amazingly enough, no company in Lexington has suddenly started offering a similar deal.
