Late 80's/early 90's nature program. WHAT WAS IT??

Post by adam0408 »

Okay, this has been bothering me for a while now, and nobody can give me the answer. The internet has only given me too much information of the wrong type. This was a nature documentary program airing in the early 90's, possibly on pbs, probably on sunday nights, and the host was a guy with a beard that liked to wear plaid shirts.

I'm fairly certain it wasn't Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom or NATURE, and I think the title was something something with somebody somebody I remember preferring this program over nature when I was young, I think because I found nature to be boring.

It was in the format of video with voice overs and the only time you really saw the host was at the beginning and the end of the program.

HELP. It is driving me batty!!

Do you mean Marty Stouffer and Wild America?

There was a movie made about the Stouffer family. I think it was also called Wild America and it starred one of the kids from Home Improvement as Marty. It's not a bad movie if you are interested in renting it.

Plaid shirt? You already have the correct answer but the first thing that came to my mind was Red Green!

I am a man; but I can change if I have to, I guess.

Not really a nature show.

No, I know what you mean. I asked literally everybody I come in contact with on a daily basis what this show was, and that was the most consistent answer :P

I realize now, watching youtube videos that I was mis-remebering a bit since it seems Mr. Stoufer preferred shirts that were of a seventies theme and not necessarily plaid. Sometimes he wore sweaters of a very questionable nature. It is strange to a further degree that nobody in my family (with whom I watched this show VERY often) remembered this program. I researched and found that the show went on for twelve seasons... I kinda want to find them on dvd now. Nostalgia is an odd thing sometimes.

I watched this show and enjoyed it. However, you can tell that many of the scenes are faked with non-wild animals. I think viewers are more sophisticated now and Stouffer would no longer be able to get away with such filming.
