Bundy trumpet?

Post by bort »

My folks were cleaning some things out of storage, and found my old Bundy trumpet, from when I first started band in 4th grade (late 80s). I'll be picking it up this weekend, so I'm not sure of the condition, or if it even plays...it's been about 15 years since I've used it. I certainly don't think it's worth much, and I have no use for it.

What should I do with it? Is it worth trying to get a few bucks for something like this (there are so many cheap trumpets now!)? Donate it? Chuck it in the trash if it needs too many repairs?

Oh, that much? Ok, thanks for the heads up. If it works (big "if" there, I'll probably just donate it).

I have a few Bundy parts if you need anything. They are actually pretty good student level horns.

To my surprise, the trumpet still works just fine... valves were smooth and quick, and all of the slides still pulled. I probably haven't picked up that horn in 10 or 15 years.

Cleaning it up now before I donate it. I don't have a snake to clean out the leadpipe, and I can see some crud in there. Any way to clean it well without a snake?

Another question... the mouthpiece I have is in rough shape. Yes, it works... but it's very pitted and kind of a mess. Probably a D or D-.

Is it better to donate a horn with a gross mouthpiece (so it is instantly "playable"), or should I trash the mouthpiece and let the next owner replace it?

Snake: borrow one.
Mouthpiece: don't worry about it.
Other: make sure there is no corrosion in the valve stems and springs as well.

Are you sure you want to sell it? Especially as it plays well, and there is no cost investment in it presently?

First you gotta post a video of your first time playing trumpet in fifteen years.
