I have been called to play Ein Deutches Requiem by Brahms and I only have a CC tuba at the moment. Is there anybody nearby who can rent an F tuba to me? I would also consider using an EEb. I am in Center, TX. Center is an hour from Shreveport, Louisiana, an hour from Longview, TX, an hour from Lufkin, TX and 30 minutes from Nacogdoches, TX. I am a 42 year old minister of music and I will treat the instrument like my own child. Can anybody lead me in the right direction? I managed to finesse Mendelssohn's Elijah Oratorio on my Miraphone 186 CC, but I would rather not go through that again. Please send me a PM. I would greatly appreciate it. I will be happy to put down a big cash deposit for your protection.

Is there any particular reason you can't play this piece on your C?

Todd,
I can and will more than likely do it on CC. The scoring is really more of a chamber ensemble than an orchestra. I will just have to be very careful not to cover the ensemble. I think this should not be too difficult for the 186. I wouldn't try to do this on a Thor, but the 186 should be able to blend. I will probably experiment with different mouthpieces. My Blokepiece may come in handy.

Excellent. I would simply practice playing softly more often. Most people don't, or at least don't very often. I once played the contrabassoon part on a Mozart octet on a 186 C. It's still one of the hardest things I've ever had to do.

That's sound advice (pun intended). It speaks volumes. Somebody stop me! Seriously tough, I think it is very playable. It will just take a lot of control.Todd S. Malicoate wrote:Excellent. I don't see the harm in asking to borrow or rent an F tuba, though. It's lovely to be a really good tuba player, but a really good tuba player with the right equipment can still have an easier time of things. Have you checked with Sumner Erickson in Denton? He's honestly the only guy I know out there, but, you know, he's a really great guy.
