silver allergy and PT 50

Post by dsfinley »

So I've always had pretty bad chapped lips after playing and my teacher thinks I may be allergic to Silver and thinks I should get a stainless steel mouthpiece. The mouthpiece I've been using and loved is a PT 50. I've tried a G&W Bayamo and really liked it and I've been looking at the Sidey Hellebergs as well. I'm looking for something in the same size area as the PT 50 that I could possibly trade for on the For Sale forum. Any suggestions for others to try?

If the PT-50 works for you, why not have a custom mouthpiece maker copy the rim in Lexan or SS and convert your PT50 to a screw rim?

I play pretty regularly on a Denis Wick 5 that I coated (rim only) with blue fingernail polish. The stuff comes off pretty well with acetone.

+1 (thanks for the tip - no problems for six months now!)

I have had (and sold) several PT mouthpieces that had delrin rims. At one time the full line was available with delrin rims by calling Custom Music and asking about them. I'm not sure this is still offered, but if it is, perhaps that's something to try?

EDIT: I never had a 50 with a delrin rim, only PT-88s.
