MP ideas for a 1291 BBb
Anyone found a great one for this horn? Using a MF 3 and just wondering at others' choices.

I use the Sellmansberger Symphony model on mine. It can get a little hot in the low register when pushed and this mouthpiece cures that tendency.

Thanks Roger. By hot do you mean kind of barky. I am looking to have a little less edgy sound in the low register - more broad and velvety. Is that what you mean? By the way, do you feel this is a bad horn for quintet, or maybe not the horn for all around use?

On my 1291 CC, I used a Baer MMVI, and it worked very well for me.

The 1291 CC and the 1291 BBb are rather two different animals, but the Baer on the 1291 CC is a good choice. On the 1291 BBb I get some edge if I push it too hard, even with a PT88. The Sellmansberger tends to tone that down quite a bit and gives the horn a really nice sound that I get a lot of compliments about. Not really velvety, but nice an clean with great feel. If you are looking for a sound like velvet, try (if you can) the V8 model by Terry Warburton. It makes my 188 sound like the fluffy pipes on an organ.

Before switching to CC, I used a PT-48 and really enjoyed the fit on my 1291. A lot of people in my university orch. really liked the sound I produced with it, but it certainly cost a LOT of air.
This is my first post, btw. Greetings everyone

I've found the Mike Finn 3B best suited for me on my 1291 5V. I also have an AGR on the horn.

Do you know about how much deeper that is than the Geib? I was recently given a G and want to give it a whirl when the season ends. I love the sound my PT-48 gets, but I'd like something a little more agile for smaller work while maintaining the sound I like.

just ordered the symphony for work in the brass band. I am excited to play it on my horn. But the Baer is a great piece as well.
