Slide lengths for all keys

Post by bububassboner »

Hello all,
I know it has been posted before but I can't find it. Does anyone have valve slide lengths for valves 1-5 for the four keys of tuba? I'm converting a BBb valve section to Eb so I need the Eb length for sure but all would be nice.

Thanks in advance

Kiltie has already posted the information for the lengths of circuits 1 through 4. Here's some addition specs for the 5th valve you requested:

5th valve 'flat whole step' for Eb:
A typical 5th valve loop is the length that will lower the instrument WITH the 4th valve depressed by a whole step.

Some people call it a "long" whole step, but in reality...

an F tuba typical 5th valve loop is a CC tuba 1st valve loop
a CC tuba typical 5th valve loop is a GG tuba 1st valve loop
an Eb tuba typical 5th valve loop is a BBb tuba 1st valve loop

I prefer my fifth valves to be set for a 2 - 3 combination instead of a flat step. To calculate that... just add the lengths of the existing 2 and 3 circuits together and allow for some 'pull'.

Read that website until you understand it.

The spreadsheet is AWESOME for comparing tuning strategies on a theoretically mathematically true tuba. I added a sixth valve to my spreadsheet and learned a lot from the process.
