I still have one of those Franz brick metronomes. The Bakelite models are a little louder than the wood models; I distinctly remember doing the back to back comparison, and the wood kept more of the sound in the box. Mine has held up for at least 30 years, the only thing damaged is the pin you push or pull in the back to mute the sound; it was bent over years ago while being transported. Mine also has the flashing light on the top.
