Maryland Community Band Day 2013

Post by Heavy_Metal »

Sunday, June 9 from noon to 8 PM at the Lurman Woodland Theater, Catonsville, MD. The following bands will perform:

12 Noon - Williamsport Community Band
1 p.m. - Bay Winds Band of Annapolis
2 p.m. - Bel Air Community Band
3 p.m. - Montgomery Village Community Band
4 p.m. - Olney Concert Band
5 p.m. - Rockville Concert Band
6 p.m. - Columbia Concert Band
7 p.m. - Baltimore Symphonic Band (the host of this year's event)

Bay Winds has six tubas and Bel Air has five, not sure about the others 8)

At this point I'm not sure what the bands will be playing, except that Bel Air's five tubas will be featured in "Big Joe, The Tuba".

Catonsville is just west of Baltimore. For directions, go here:

Cool! I haven't been to this since I moved out of Baltimore, but I played with both the Columbia band and the BSB for many years.

I also grew up in the Catonsville area and have been to the Lurman a bunch of times before. Nice setting for a concert. The Lurman is also about a 10 minute walk from Baltimore Brass. Not that they're open on Sunday, but just saying...

Well, you could always come down for the weekend......

This year for the first time there will be an All-State Community Band, featuring Maryland's best community musicians. Columbia is hosting that one. I'll post that in a new thread, once I have the set list.

Can't make it down that weekend. Hope you all have good weather.

The All-State idea is an interesting idea, I'll be curious to hear how it turns out.
