You get what you pay for. I picked up a Chinese tuba at BBC and instantly it just felt cheap. I'd look for an ugly used horn that sounds great.

I bought a Mack 410 that I am pleased with.

Whether you go into music or anything else, the quality of your writing is as important as the rest of the work you do. You want to communicate clearly and give a good impression to others.

For some, opinions about Chinese tubas are one thing, and opinions about particular dealers another. For others, not.

If you search the board a little (it won't take much) you can learn all you could ever need to know.

Edit: Well, one bit of advice. There is a limit to "you get what you pay for." If you buy a 186ish Jinbao 5v C that is what you get, love it or hate it, no matter what you pay for it. If that is what you were to end up with, you'd be in better musical company than you might imagine, but it is easy to pay too much. Look through the sponsors section with care.

I realize I'm truly Old School, but I'm amazed anyone was able to decipher what you wrote.

Oh my goodness! I am so sorry guys! I typed that on my phone, laugh out loud. But, ok I can see where you're all coming from. One of my directors and I discussed the M & M horns and he did agree that I should stay on the King BBb we have at school. Then after saving three to four grand go ahead and find a 5v CC to purchase. Thanks for all of your help!

There are punctuation marks on your phone, you should try them!

Yeah. You know that's true...
I know it is true, but I do hate people who are too lazy to make an attempt at writing coherently, so Sean would be right!

There was a picture on the front page of our local newspaper yesterday that was taken before a graduation ceremony. Three high school graduates were all shown on their 'smart' phones... probably texting each other!

With communication moving so fast and using all those abbreviations, etc., the standard of accuracy is not what it once was. I routinely find errors in spelling, usage and formatting when reading the on line version of the NYT every morning and I don't think that years ago you could have found a typo in the many pages of the print edition most days. A couple of days ago they published the Op-eds on the "Editorials" page and the editorials on the "Op-ed" page. It was as plain as it could be. So the person(s) formatting it did not look twice to see it and there wasn't an editor looking at it at all.

Usually I can figure out what they [NYT] mean, but sometimes with other stuff I am not quite sure. It's kind of sad, since there is all kinds of help out there in all the grammar and spelling checkers, if folks would use them. At least some of it is funny.

That may be true, but it also doesn't make it easier to read, nor to understand.

Actually, I believe you have to be BETTER at spelling. You have to have all the correct letters(just not necessarily in the right order).

Hmmm.... according to this... in this case... Grandpa should be capitalized. I often wondered about that and just had to do a search!

I guess the thread is sufficiently derailed to mention that words like grandpa, president, etc. are capitalized when used as or as part of a proper name. When they are merely descriptive, they are not.

E.g. -- We saw President Roosevelt at supper. We saw the president at supper.

I suppose you are telling us that Roosevelt was a Grandpa?

However, I might be willing to buy a used tuba imported by a dealer I wouldn't pay directly.
